Karl Zimmerman received his Bachelor of Arts degree in business and economics from McMaster University and has completed his Chartered Financial Analyst CFA (level 1) and his Canadian Life Underwriters level 2.

Karl started his investment career with Merit Investment Corporation in 1983. While at Merit, Karl’s primary focus was in the area of corporate finance where he sourced, structured and closed on approximately $100 million dollars of transactions with large Canadian corporations and high net worth individuals.

Within two years of joining Merit, Karl became the youngest major owner of that firm, which at the time, had offices across Canada and employed approximately 200 people. Merit was subsequently sold to a larger firm and from 1989 to 1992, Karl was Investment Executive and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Toronto based Standard Securities.

In 1992 Karl joined Midland Walwyn and co-founded the PPK Team. Midland Walwyn later became part of Merrill Lynch and then was subsequently purchased by CIBC Wood Gundy in 2001. While at Merrill and CIBC Karl was a member of the firm’s President’s Council.

In October 2006, The PPK Team joined the newly created downtown Oakville branch of Scotia McLeod.

Throughout his career, Karl has been actively involved in teaching. He taught evening courses in advanced accounting, tax and macroeconomics at Sheridan College for five years and the Canadian Securities Course for six years.

Karl is a former cabinet member and past chairman of the Financial Services division of The United Way of Oakville where he volunteered for several years. He is also a former director of MPI, Mission Partners International, a large missionary organization working through churches and orphanages in the former Soviet Union where he has been actively involved for the past 10 years.
